Hi @ymyke, thanks for the suggestion. However, it's not an option at the moment since creating a conversation window on a file tab wouldn't be as reliable as a reserved sidebar. Also the UX is heavily optimized for a sidebar at the moment.

Why would you want to interact with it on a main pane? I believe for the purpose of vs-code and having the conversation about your code, where both are visible at the same time is more valuable compared to switching back and forth between tabs on the main pane. If you could elaborate a bit more on the need and the use cases, I may consider looking into it in the future.

I work on a rather small screen and it's hard to interact with the small sidebar.

See here:

Also, I wouldn't want to make the sidebar larger because then I'd have to constantly resize it when using different content such as file explorer or git.

When I work with Jupyter / Interactive Windows, my main pane gets split in half and I have code and interactive window side by side. I like that way of working. Maybe an option for your extension too?

It's not viable to keep a conversation on a dynamic window aka editor. User may close it unintentionally and thus requiring them to re-login. One thing I am thinking that may improve your experience would be moving the copy/insert/new buttons above the code blocks just like the chatgpt web. Would that address your issue? I don't have any plans to move the conversation window to an editor for a full-page experience. I'd rather have a static and more reliable real estate for the extension.

Let me know your thoughts about the copy/insert/new buttons moving above code-blocks. That may be something I'd consider making customizable.

I see your reasoning. I would leave the buttons where they are, that doesn't make much of a difference for me.

@ymyke Check out the newest version on marketplace and see if it looks better. I made some UX improvements, moving the code action (copy, insert, new) buttons to above code block for better visibility.
