Yes, I did. But it doesn't support GIF.
Only if you have two ImageViews for APNG and GIF.

Switching different image views when image is loaded doesn't seem like much of a problem.

Well, that's when you need to create UI in code - for non-trivial cases :)
Off topic: there are tons of tools that make creating UI in code arguably easier then in the Interface Builder. See PureLayout, Visual Format Language
