As a disclaimer, there are lots of different ways to run automated tests for different python environments. In quotemine I have used the "simple" de-facto standard tox, since it does everything we need. For more advanced automated testing there is also nox.

For making the package pip installable there are also several options. The standard way here is setuptools, but there is also poetry. I haven't looked into poetry much, since setuptools works fine for quotemine as of now.

Given that we are still experimenting with the interfaces, perhaps it makes sense to not yet add mypy for a while. It slows down development quite a bit and right now, maybe you want to focus on trying out different ideas rather than having everything be mypy-perfect.
