Turns out this is a problem in how we select the quadrature degree for TFEs.

Fixed in https://bitbucket.org/mapdes/ufl/branch/TFE_degree_fix or https://bitbucket.org/mapdes/ufl/branch/TFE_degree_hack - both fixes have their issues.

afaiu TFE_degree_fix is very inefficient for TFEs but doesn't affect "regular" elements whereas TFE_degree_hack is a little bit inefficient for all element types. Not quite sure which of these is less bad. And neither is the correct fix, is it?

Fixed by UFL change (better fix on its way).

I think I'd have picked the other fix simply because it doesn't mess with the existing generated code.

Btw, is there an equivalent of 'instant-clean' at the pyop2-ffc cache level?

So we can revert the UFL degree hack merge and merge the UFL degree fix branch instead if you like.
