Hej Raphaël,

thanks for the suggestion, I like your idea a lot! Would you like to take a shot at a UI mockup for this? Specifically, I think it would be great to explore the pros and cons of having multiple projects in the tree at the same time vs. having multiple concurrent projects e.g. in different windows / available via a switcher (for example in the toolbar, we could have a 'recent projects' entry or the like). There are also some further options for the tree that might be worth considering (e.g. a 'trash bin' for recently deleted components that could be dragged back into the study). With the UI decisions in place, we could start working on a roadmap for implementation.

Any thoughts would be massively appreciated -- looking forward to discussing this further!

I love the 'recent projects' Idea. I'll do a mockup if I have the time for

Here, I've done a mockup for the design. Like that, we could choose between different project, open it into the current tab, a new tab or remove it.

Thanks a lot, Raphaël, that looks great!

I have a few thoughts/suggestions about this, that I would be super-interested to discuss: My intuition is that, UI-wise, the project selector might work better somewhere higher up in the visual hierarchy, if that makes sense: The toolbar buttons above the project selector in the mockup are still specific to the project that's open: The preview will still open just the selected project, and the options are also project-specific.

There are also a couple of technical issues that we'll probably need to work through before implementing this, notably that studies can take up a lot of space, and there's going to be a limit to the number of concurrently open projects because we have only so much memory available, and a limited amount of space in localStorage.
As a result, the UI may also require nudges in the UI to stop folks from opening tons of projects, and communicate clearly that the software may drop old projects out of memory requirements (this can also already be an issue for very large projects already).

Do you have ideas on how to handle this?
