O2_onelev.ncl is not used.

For all other variables, the upper_case is a masked version of the lower ase (i.e., the variable derivation is only applying a mask to the original variable). This operation will be covered in the revised backend and therefore will no longer be necessary to have the two versions (upper and lower case) of these variables.

I have the same issue on my Mac. I simply ignore that git always states that the files are modified for the time being and it works fine for me.

Those files will no longer be used in v2.0.
We will also revise diagnostic filenames and require only lower case.
