The DotAAS spec describes BlobType as a "Group of bytes". In python, both, bytes
and bytearray
, allow storing bytes. The only difference seems to be that bytes
is immutable, so a bytes
object cannot be modified after creation. bytearray
however isn't immutable. I don't see why a user should want to modify a bytearray by hand, but I also don't see why we should prevent them from doing so. Thus I'm fine with changing the type to bytearray
.

Personally, I'd vote for following aas-core-meta as closely as possible in light of it being the represenation from which the official schemata and SDKs are generated.

We probably chose bytes
over bytearray
, because base64.b64decode()
returns a bytes
object and because bytes
is the more primitive type, it can be instantiated simply by prefixing a string with b
, e.g. b'\x00\x00'
, while bytearray
requires wrapping it in bytearray()
. We are currently spec-compliant with our bytes
implementation, but we can discuss about changing it to bytearray
.
