On two different nodes it would look like this:

node 'mongonode1.my.domain' {
  include '::mongodb'
  mongodb::mongod {
    'my_mongod_instanceX':
      mongod_instance    => 'mongodb1',
      mongod_replSet     => 'samerepleset',
  }
}

node 'mongonode2.my.domain' {
  include '::mongodb'
  mongodb::mongod {
    'my_mongod_instanceX':
      mongod_instance    => 'mongodb1',
      mongod_replSet     => 'samerepleset',
  }
}

On the same node, like that:

node 'mongonode1.my.domain' {
  include '::mongodb'

  mongodb::mongod { 'mongod_instance1':
    mongod_instance => 'instance1',
    mongod_port     => 27019,
    mongod_replSet  => 'samerepleset',
  }

  mongodb::mongod { 'mongod_instance2':
    mongod_instance => 'instance2',
    mongod_port     => 27020,
    mongod_replSet  => 'samerepleset',
  }
}

After that you have to configure the repleset members in the config of your mongodb cluster:

but this way, these arbiters are just regular mongo instances. Besides having to add them to a replica set, they wont have --nojournal --smallfiles flags. Kind of a bummer.

Have to look for a way to load a specific conf file, perhaps?

There is an parameter mentioned in the readme: mongod_add_options
So you want something like that:

  mongodb::mongod { 'mongod_instance1':
    mongod_instance => 'arbitar1',
    mongod_replSet  => 'samerepleset',
    mongod_add_options => ['smallfile = true', 'nojournal']
  }

All elements of the array mongod_add_options will be added to the end of the conf file.
