I agree that this could be confusing. If this is urgent for you, feel free to make a pull request with you proposed changes. Otherwise, I'll get to this next time I touch this library.

Take a look at 46fc1d8.
I didn't want to handle every HttpStatusCode separately, but if you do get an HttpException now you can check HttpException.StatusCode to determine if its a bad request or an internal error.
