Newlines not working in message template about drone-slack

have you tried using | instead of > and then removing the explicit \n? The main difference between > and | is the folds newlines into spaces, where the latter respects newlines

-       template: >
-         this is a line\n
-         this should be a new line
+       template: |
+         this is a line
+         this should be a new line
