Unfortunately there's still work to do on things like StringTables and SendTables, and until those are parsed and implemented you're not going to get any entities.

If I want to do something like record what times items are being used should I instead use yasha?

Definitely, Manta is for the Source 2 engine, and we haven't even fully figured out how it's all encoded yet. Yasha is what you want for Source 1.
