Looks like your device does not support KVM. What OS/hardware do you have? What is the output of:

sudo apt install cpu-checker
sudo kvm-ok

from windows.

History203 avatar History203 commented on July 23, 2024

root ➜ ~ $ kvm-ok
INFO: /dev/kvm exists
KVM acceleration can be used

HAHA, I tried it on GitHub Codespaces, and I guess it's not a good idea

From what I can google about the error

KVM: entry failed, hardware error 0xffffffff

it happens when the host machine pretends to have KVM (by providing a /dev/kvm/ file) but doesnt have it in reality.

So when you say that you get this error when running it inside some kind of VPS/Virtual Machine (I dont know Codespaces) then I am not surprised that it does not work. Because it requires the server owner to allow nested virtualization and almost none of them do that.

There is a way to make it work even without KVM, by setting the variable KVM=N. Then it should run even in Github Codespaces. But because it is not hardware accelerated anymore, it will be too slow to use.
