Sorry, startx is not working, either (it did in a previous install, I will test some more. For now I get

/usr/bin/xinit: server error

from crouton.

I tried installing lightdm (--no-install-recommends), no luck. After that, I proceeded to a reboot of the chromebook, and startkde is working, indeed. Go figure!

Yikes. Well, startx has never worked in crouton for as-of-yet unknown reasons, but startkde and xinit should both work. Are you on the Samsung ARM Chromebook?

This is actually the Acer C7, it's been working great since the reboot.
Something I noticed if that if KDE's power management is active, and you
cycle back to chromeOS, at some point the screen goes blank (presumably
driven by KDE) and I can't bring it back

Disabling all KDE power management (right click on the battery in the
panel) seems to fix the issue.

Is it possible to uninstall KDE's power manager without breaking the KDE dependency chain? If so, I should add that to the target. No power manager should ever be run in crouton; that has "bad idea" written all over it.

I played a bit and couldn't find an easy way. Will keep looking, thanks for
all!
