Hah! I found a bug alright... in my code.
Missing from my above example was
def primary_visuals
super || PrimaryVisuals.new
endI had missed the bit about passing a Proc to the default: option so I had fallen back to a custom getter method which was running over my unsaved attribute.
My bad. Very much enjoying kicking the tires on this library.
