This is not likely a problem with django-ses but rather a problem with your setup. It seems from your description like you are still in sandbox mode. Are you sure "all" of the senders and receivers in the email are verified?

I know this issue is old, but I hate seeing issues open that could be closed in a repo. This is a configuration issue not a django-ses one! The error is a reply from your SMTP server an has nothing to do with django-ses.
