Not all recipes can be imported.
If recipe depends on module not available in user packages it reports exception.

That recipe on screenshot depends on xlrd package. Do you have it available to Python interpreter?

Also now %place function is available, so you can try that also - it will put the recipe on input-line, then just execute it

Ah I see what's wrong - that recipe can't be imported as is - it wants to process all xls files in current folder on runtime
Although recipes should be generally safe, it's good practise to inspect a bit the code with %fetch function before importing
I can only recommend again, you now use %place function and customize the code to do what you intended

I tried a recipe to convert CSV to XML, it works. One suggestion, can you hook up your search with StackOverflow?
I use it often, it may be less clean and organized than ActiveState recipe. I am new to ipynb and will learn something from your work. Thanks again.
