The symbols below the arrival platform added in 3.1.24 and removed in 3.1.27 simply spelled out the word NAUVIS, the name of the primary world surface in Factorio 1.1.

I was experimenting with entity-based monospaced Roman lettering à la Text Plates. There were some hidden under the main menu dialog box but it wasn't well-implemented. The "alien" ancient symbol font was something I got Blender to spit out while I was doing that and I didn't 100% intend for them to make it into the published version of the mod. The symbols did roughly relate to plans for a Stargate-type extension mod (<5% completed), essentially an "advanced transmat" that connects to a network of other worlds. I wasn't thinking very carefully about the consequences of plonking them down in the game's current state. I realised they were just clutter, an annoyance for the player to have to manually tidy up, and not a justified use of RAM/VRAM. I did experiment with having them be "entity corpse" type entities (which are unselectable and automatically fade away after a set time) but just pulled the plug on them instead.
