File extension for TableTools.BUTTONS.xls is csv instead of xls about tabletools

Please see this thread as to why this is: http://datatables.net/forums/comments.php?DiscussionID=4043 . It was an intentional change, since TableTools doesn't actually export XLS - some Excel versions were complaining about it. Excel should open the csv file just fine, and if you want, you can override the extension to whatever you want.

I see the issue, but it's misleading to have an icon showing "xls". And the output isn't technically CSV, either...

It might be worth considering removing that button until the xls format is fully supported.

It's easy to override the text in the button to say 'Excel' or to have an xls extension. The intention of the button was that you click it and a file is downloaded, which when opened will open in Excel - which should occur for the majority of end users. I agree that it isn't technically correct - but at the same time it "gets the job done". I do plan to rewrite the Excel exporter at some point to use an XML format that Excel will read.

I am facing the same issue. Is the issue fixed. This is the only issue which is stopping me from using DataTable plugin as exporting data is one of the main functionalities in my application. I am not changing the extension through the code because in modern xls it says corrupted file. So please fix this issue

TableTools has been replaced by the Buttons extension now. I would suggest using that, it does create an XLSX file. Development on TableTools has been halted and will not be progressed further.
