ok, searched a bit and found that I need to add size to the map.

It is working fine now.

UPDATE:

I see the map appears but the control is all messed up. What can be the issue? And if I do not add height and width then map does not appear at all.

probably the css of your page is overriding the style applied by the script to the menu and the style of Google elements into the map

Sorry got busy with other stuff.. The problem was basically the modern themes these days that add style to images in order to make them responsive.

the below css does the magic..

.gm-style img { max-width: none; }
.gm-style label { width: auto; display: inline; }
