Ok so I figured out why this did not work. I had a faulty example, my apologizes. Simple need to change:

let resp = response as Dictionary

to:

let resp = response as Dictionary<String,AnyObject>

This makes sense, as swift requires generics definition for container types. I updated the examples to reflect this change. Any questions let me know.

Thanks that worked @daltoniam. Just one more question. How would I access nested keys in a JSON? I tried

let dict = response as Dictionary<String, AnyObject>
println("response \(dict["key"]["nestedKey"])")

doesn't work

Well with it being AnyObject you would need to typecast before accessing the nested key or change AnyObject to Dictionary. Also check out these for JSON parsing:
