I've yet to find a satisfactory solution to this, but it's tied to the data.init code, which I'm keen to get cleaned up.

This issue seems to still be present in version 2.1.5. I've just proposed another fix for it which seems to work, but will need further testing.

And I've cancelled my pull request - creates issues with negative numbers <= -10.
