ext directory structure about gherkin2

I think that gherkin directory you're seeing is a git artifact. It doesn't seem to be in the tree. http://github.com/aslakhellesoy/gherkin/tree/master/ext/.

As for Java / JRuby support, what about FFI?

You mean build artifact right? In any case - shouldn't the build artifacts go into the same directory as the extconf.rb file? I think that's the common way to do it.

I don't think FFI will work, since a gem packaged for JRuby doesn't mandate OS. We can't compile C code for say OSX and expect it to work with FFI on Windows.

I think we're seeing different things. When I run rake compile, all the build artifacts are put in ext/feature. ext/feature/feature.bundle is copied to lib/gherkin, but there is no ext/gherkin for me.

Too bad about FFI.

Got it working ok now. Was lagging behind merging code :-)
