Hello Tom Roche,
I studied the problem you reported.
There are two changes I can implement in fstransform to address it:
-
when converting the filesystem, preserve its UUID and LABEL. This should be relatively straightforward for most filesystems.
-
check if the device being converted appears in /etc/fstab, and warn the user about the need to update /etc/fstab - I can easily print the existing /etc/fstab line and how it should be modified.
I am much less confident about automatically editing /etc/fstab - it's definitely risky
from fstransform.
