Just a quick comment to say that here at Curve we are looking to move ORY Hydra into production in the coming weeks and have been very happy with it.

Hi there, no pressure or anything but I wanted to check if there has been any progress here?

caniszczyk avatar caniszczyk commented on July 22, 2024

Sorry for the delay, the @cncf/toc is still working to schedule presentations and make decisions, there's a bit of a backlog, give us a couple more weeks.

No problem, thank you for the update!

toc toc!

Now that it seems the new TOC was settled, do you have a timeframe on when is going to start the evaluation? No hurries just to know if it fits on our plan as we're currently evaluating between ORY Hydra, dex & Keycloak and this will be a point in favor of ORY Hyra.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work @aeneasr!

@glerchundi we're going to actively rebooting project evaluation but focusing on the backlog of graduation requests first. The TOC is also reworking the way projects are organized at a high level to help scale CNCF: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mt1LH1QJgwA91A6x-DEdjg4ZOXrOnxxc1d2xhq4Hq3I/edit#heading=h.sgr75xakh1k6

Same here in our company, we'll be putting into production by the end of this year.

caniszczyk avatar caniszczyk commented on July 22, 2024

can you make a formal project proposal and send us a PR? we will then schedule you for a presentation (e.g., #256)

Thanks!

aeneasr avatar aeneasr commented on July 22, 2024

Ok, will do! Is the plan to present this to the SIG still open?

lopezator avatar lopezator commented on July 22, 2024

glerchundi avatar glerchundi commented on July 22, 2024

Hei @aeneasr, does the proposal PR exist or where could I subscribe in order to see how is this going? Thanks!

Nice to see there are folks commenting in support of this project. Now that SIG Security is in place it would make sense to schedule a presentation with them first for their thoughts.

Also we have recently added that we would like to see projects tell us how they compare and contrast to other similar projects and products (eg Keycloak)

Happy to contribute and help in case it's needed.

Reasons why we've chosen Hydra:

  • Simple: It does one thing and it does it well
  • Extensible: How they designed the flows allowed us to create a custom login page with our custom authentication mechanisms which make our whole app much simpler with less attack surface making in the end much more easy to manage, operate & protect.
  • We feel comfortable with projects written in Go as they're, in general, very reliable.
  • It's not a monster like Keycloak
