Just to say something positive, as I have only pointed out issues: I found the book quite easy to read while passing a wide range of knowledge from basic to advanced. It is both usefull to new commers to Perl, as to old timers to learn about the new features.
I just missed some introductory chapter telling what is the intended audience of the book and what programming experience is expected from the reader.
