that's somewhat surprising... I would think that counts as the ORG unmanaged metadata.

What happens if you add a explicit entry for the managed package object in the manifest/package.xml?

that works, but curious if there are flags in the retrieve command to alter this behavior, it's kind of odd

if you have managed fields on say account object, those get retrieved even though i don't think you'd want them since you can't do anything with them

Surprised I haven't run into the inverse issue yet.... I guess we could possibly fix issue in this command by checking each file for a namespace...

if I had hair, this would make me want to pull it out.
