To access Windows folders and start Visual Studio Code from WSL by running code ., proceed as follows:

Get started with WSL by reading the tutorial by Kia Zhi Tang.
In WSL, install Ruby, e.g. using rvm and update the PATH environment variable.
To install VSCode, install the Remote WSL extension and the Visual Studio Code server.
