You don't need systemd. You can ignore the systemd-tmpfiles command, I think.

The other commands using systemd are just making use of your system's init system. So for example, you should be able to replace these commands:

systemctl start postgresql
systemctl stop postgresql
systemctl restart postgresql

With these commands:

service postgresql start
service postgresql stop
service postgresql restart

There is one other systemd command: systemctl enable postgresql. This step is telling your system to start PostgreSQL on boot, otherwise you'll need to start it manually after every reboot. I don't know what the Ubuntu equivalent is, but it isn't necessary to start playing with nfldb.

FYI, the other commands to set up PostgreSQL should hopefully be the same.

Thanks! That and some googling were enough to get me going. I've made a wiki page showing my steps. If anyone tries to install it using the page and has trouble, please update the wiki.

There is a fair bit of duplication between the wikis, obviously. I removed most of it at the beginning and end. As for the stuff in the middle, I opted to allow one continuous set of instructions, rather than having the user jump back and forth. But in the case where whole sections (such as Importing the nfldb database) are the same, I would also be fine with sending the user to the main installation wiki for that section and telling them to return back to this one when done.

Hope this is helpful!

@rkmaddox Thank you so much! Much appreciated. I ended up removing the duplicated content and adding a link to the original Installation page. :-)
