Maybe another option to truncate a salted sha256 hash to the first 32 characters, to reduce size but still be fairly certain that there wouldn't be collisions.

Right now, deid_dua() has an argument id_length, which defaults to 64 characters. For my own use, I've changed the default to id_length = 16, which seems to have been fine. The minimum limit is 12 digits.

Someone suggested an integer just for ease. It's probably not as secure as a proper hashing, but hashing might be overkill for a lot of applications.

So all this is to say: there's already an option to shorten the hash, but adding a less secure / nicer looking integer option might be warranted.
