This is intentional as you can not use the full int64 space in JSON. See also https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Number/MAX_SAFE_INTEGER.

well okey? But then what is the intention of going from a number to a string? Shouldnt we use a string in this api as wel then?

No. For all languages that provide support for int64, an integer type is used. E.g. when using the Go gRPC client, this value is just an int64.

The issue is only with JSON, in which case Go handles the string to int64 conversion and back to make sure no data is lost.
