I'd like to do this. I'm new to the project so I just wanted to confirm a couple things:

  1. I don't have experience using EC2 but the scripts looks straight forward to me. Can I trust that they work?
  2. I'd go with putting it directly into the main README under "Running Adam" section. It could also go into it's own markdown file. Thoughts?

  1. If you can clean up the docs, we have a few teams that are using EC2 that can verify the document if necessary. For the most part, it should be straightforward.
  2. I don't think this should be part of the README: it might make sense to start the ADAM GitHub Pages site for this, or make a docs/ directory. Anyone feel strongly one way or the other?

@gideonite that'd be a huge help! Thank you for volunteering to do this.

  1. Agreed with @carlyeks
  2. I think we should add it to the GitHub wiki; we should start documenting more of the CLI and API here.

@gideonite, this looks great. Thank you for taking this on! I went through and made a few small modifications to reflect the latest Spark/ADAM release numbers.

@ajohi it has moved inside the repository to https://github.com/bigdatagenomics/adam/blob/master/docs/source/40_running_on_EC2.md
