gridnotedisplayer should be connected to a gridkeyboard (not grid) through the menu inside the triangle menu:
That said I don't have a grid MIDI controller to test it, no clue if it actually works or not, if properly connected.

OH! The triangle menu! You're so right! I see now. I didn't understand that it was only for use with the gridkeyboard module. Still, I think the grey cable lying there limp and being undraggable is a bit misleading. I'll leave this open for now, but I'll make a new issue titled "make gridnotedisplayer cable draggable" or similar.
Actually, it would probably make sense to just merge the functionalities of these modules and provide a more complete gridkeyboard.

ah yeah, gridnotedisplayer is super old, before I had a good way of making a patch cable for it. that's why it's triangle-menu only and you get that weird janky semi-cable.
it's main purpose is for a scenario like this, where you have a note effect (such as an arpeggiator) in between the gridkeyboard and gridnotedisplayer, so that you can see the arpeggiation playing out underneath your fingers (rather than just getting lights for the buttons your fingers are pressing)

Ahh neat, makes sense why it's a separate module then. I'll re-title this issue to "modernize gridnotedisplayer's cable"
Edit 1: Actually, should I? I guess it could work as part of the gridkeyboard module (and pretty well at that).
Edit 2: Maybe there should be a system for outputting to grids that isn't reliant upon the "grid" cables, so it can be controlled more easily? Not sure.
