Apparently with the TabActivity, onPause stops the updates when switching to the sky view. Need to look at this more closely for a potential fix.

On a Samsung Galaxy S3, I can replicate this by switching to the "Map" tab and then pressing the Back button. If I switch to any of the other tabs, without switching to the "Map" tab, the problem doesn't occur. So, it seems its related to the GPS engine being left on my the MyLocationOverlay. This might be related to #1.
