Ok, I found the debugger. The error is:
So, Alfred says Document is empty but yet lpsetting_query.py is returning the required XML...

Ok, the problem was I had
source ~/.profile; python lpsettings_query ...
in order get my PATH correct (so alfred could find python) but that seems to add an extra line to the output.
