@mojavelinux or @jirutka, Is there a way to turn off some or all Asciidoctor substututions during parsing?
Or a good way to protect the text enclosed by [ ... ]? One problem in running a preprocesser on this
is that Asciidoctor's preprocessor works line by line, whereas contstruct such as [...] may span serveral lines. One could try [ --> +[ and ] --> ]+ line by line, but this might be dangerous.

PS. I tried the "dangerou" strategy above. Mapping [ ... ] to +[ ... ]+ AND $ ... $ to +$ ... $+
seems to do th trick. I've tested this on a 3500-line document --- no bad substitions. I will
have to check further to see if this is a solution or another move in the game of whack-a-mole.
