Same here (for every other song) having installed from AUR:

$ echo 'currentsong\nclose' | curl --connect-timeout 1 -fsm 3 telnet://localhost:6600 2> /dev/null
OK MPD 0.18.0
ACK [5@0] {} Invalid word character

Which locale is used for song tags?

From my .mpdconf:

#filesystem_charset "UTF-8"
#id3v1_encoding "ISO-8859-1"

Sorry to bother you, but the issue's not fixed in my case. Interestingly, in previous version I was not having it always, sometimes it was working perfectly, but (after a crash of the applet or something) all the mpd labels would dissappear. Before installing the latest from AUR I've removed pytext hoping to remove the troubled configs as well, but now I only see N\As MPD labels.

okay

So, I really don't know why it does not work for you. As I said on kde-look.org the version 1.6.0 works normally with russian tags. But I try to understand it =)
But, if the command, which is described in the first message, does not work, I think that it is a problem of mpd.

All right, thanks. It seems so. I'll try to fix it on the MPD side.

Ok, I think I've found an error. I'll create the new release today or tomorrow.

PS since I do not use mpd, I usually do not test this module, sorry
