Also, I do not see the dir for AppleSeed Dir binary. As on the screenshot on the wiki:

And here is the screenshot on my machine:
Linux, Kubuntu, 64 bit.

I see a warning message at the top: "Multiple addons using the same name found!". What is printed in the console?

Also, may I suggest we bring this discussion to the appleseed forum? You should be able to login with GitHub.
from blenderseed.
Good suggestion, as it's not really an "issue" with blenderseed per se. :)

Hi guys.
I tested on 2 different linux machines. And i get the same issue. I cannot enable the addon.
Warning about multiple addons: it's ok. I have some addons for testing. And this message is always here. All addons work great, Only Blenderseed does not work. But i hope you can find the issue. :)
Log from console:
http://pastebin.com/G7J0X1Ve
Sure i can move the issue to blenderartists if you want. But it's related to only blenderseed. Possibly this is only Linux issue?

Not to BlenderArtsts, but the appleseed forum: https://forum.appleseedhq.net/

Very well possible.

I cannot login with google and github accounts into the forum.
"Sorry, there was an error authorizing your Github account. Perhaps you did not approve authorization?"
I'll leave this issue here. If you need some testing or other things just ask me here.
I tried the official linux 0.36 release and the master. Both cannot be enabled on my machine.
I also tried to compile the mater as it was described at 0.34: python3 ./setup.py build_ext --inplace
But nothing changed. The same issue.

You're right about GitHub login, I will investigate this. However Google login seems to work fine.
I will try to repro your installation problem on 64-bit Linux.

GitHub login is working again.
Let's discuss Blenderseed installation problems on appleseed's forum. Closing this issue now.

Last post here, please followup on https://forum.appleseedhq.net/ if necessary.
I just downloaded the latest official Blender version (2.72b) for 64-bit Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in my case), and the latest blenderseed version (v0.3.6).
I followed the blenderseed installation instructions here: https://github.com/appleseedhq/blenderseed/wiki/Installation (I used the "Install From File" method).
The installation worked, and when I expand the "Render: appleseed" section, I get to enter the path to appleseed's binary directory.
Everything is working as expected, from what I can tell. I'm not sure how I can further help.
@ohsnapitsjoel Any idea?
from blenderseed.
If it can't load "addon_dir", it MAY be because the addon is in the
addons_contrib directory. Try putting it in the addons directory instead.

Errrrp, disregard. The problem is that the addon folder you have seems to
be called "blenderseed-master". Change it's name to "blenderseed". And also
make sure it's installed in "addons" :)

Yes!
The folder must be called "blenderseed". And it must be in "addons" .
Thanks a lot.
But why do you have such a limitation?
"Addons" folder is only for official addons from blender. I never use this folder for external addons. And this is really frustrating.
Is it possible to make any folder name ('blenderseed-myname' for example) and possibilty to put into "addons_contrib"?
This is really important i think. As all addons can be put into there with any folderNames.
from blenderseed.
I'm not in front of my computer right now, so I can't test it, but I think
it CAN be in addons_contrib. But it does need to be called "blenderseed".
The reason for the limitation on that is that there is a sub folder called
icons that contains appleseed logos that the addon displays in Blender's
UI. The addon needs to be able to find that folder, so for the time being
this requires the addon folder being named "blenderseed", regardless of
where it's located.
I can try to think of a more elegant solution for the next release. :).

OK, cool about "addon_contribs". Waiting for your computer. :)
About "blendeseed" folder: Can we check if the dir name is "blenderseed"? If it's not - then make a warning. Warning is better than Exception.
