Although it might in fact work to do what you're trying: the code block you link shows how your error can contain

        extensions: {
          code: 'UNAUTHENTICATED',
          http: { status: 401 },
        },

to set the HTTP status code to 401, so you probably can set it to 302 and also set the location header ([using the headers key)[https://www.apollographql.com/docs/apollo-server/data/errors#setting-http-status-code-and-headers]) to the URL you want to redirect to.

It seems like this would be best handled at the HTTP level instead of from within your Apollo Server context function? Then whatever auth you set up with your auth() function can just be read from within your context function. I'm not enough of a NextJS expert to know how to do that in Next — maybe file this as an issue in https://github.com/apollo-server-integrations/apollo-server-integration-next instead?
