IMHO it should be kinda easy to do this in post-processing - meaning recording a
track, then using its data (either by exporting it to a PC or in another 
android app)
to estimate area.

Looks hard for MyTracks; the GPX/KML data is importable, so another service 
already exists in all likelihood.  If not, it's an opportunity, but not for 
MyTracks.

My understanding is that Google Earth Pro can calculate the area within a path.
