Very good observation. Ultimately, @rosariorobinson should decide if a license is necessary, and which one is most appropriate. I can imagine that there may be some requirements with GSoC necessitating open sourcing the project, but I am not at all well versed on those reqs.
Take a look at www.choosealicense.com to help decide which would be most appropriate. Also, take a look at other Django-based projects and packages, as 1. It may help you figure out what license is best, especially if it is common to release under a particular license, and 2. You may have to include licenses of the third party packages that you use when distributing.
The Django license can be found here: https://github.com/django/django/blob/master/LICENSE
Also related, will you be making this into a PyPI package? It makes it very easy to install and distribute. However I know this is specific to systers so I don't know how well it'd be used. It would be a great exercise though since you learn how to make proper python packages.

Yesterday we had @rosariorobinson on our weekly meeting. Rose said they are aware of the licence question and are working on that. Presumably the final decision will be taken by the end of July. So we are good.
I would like to learn how to package into a PyPI. If Systers are going to be OK with that, we could make a package by the end of GSoC.
