Yes, just don't assign a track and don't schedule any simultaneous talks The layout engine for schedule is extremely advanced. It will fill as much empty space in the schedule as possible.

Say you have three talks:

  • Each talk will be 1/3 width

Say you have 1:

  • Each talk will be 100% width

Say you have 2:

  • Each talk will be 1/2 width

Say you have 4:

  • Each talk will be 25% width

Say you have 5:

  • We only support up to 4 tracks currently, please consider organizing a less confusing conference by adding a day to your schedule. Five tracks? Really?

One really cool thing (IMHO) is that it looks forward in time. Say on one row you have one talk but it is an hour long then a half hour later you have another talk. If it displayed them both at 100% then the first talk would overlap. Instead it will display both at 50% so there is no overlap (and you end up with some whitepace in the first timeblock). This works for any combination of 1/2/3/4 simultaneous talks.

Also, talks do not need to be assigned tracks. The track is optional. And the track is not required for two or more talks to happen simultaneously. Track are only used for color coding and future use. The downside of this is you can accidentally schedule two talks in the same track at the same time.

I would urge you to reopen this issue, as this is a bug in that it is currently not possible in the UI to create a talk without specifying a track.
