Woah! Strange! Have never seen this.... Could be due to xorg font configs not being installed... Not too sure. I haven't tested i3 since I added it which was over a year ago. I'll run an install in vbox to see if I can get to the bottom of it. In the mean time I would recommend checking the wiki and making sure xorg fonts are installed and configured correctly

The installation language was English. I'll do it again to enumerate each step I did in the installation so we can check if it's reproducible. I'll edit this and add it when I finish.

  • English as installation language
  • Connecting through Wi-Fi
  • Default keymap
  • locale en_US.UTF-8
  • Europe > Madrid for timezone
  • Auto partitioning (ext4, with 512M of swap and GPT)
  • Mirrors update to France
  • Using Arch Linux base-devel
  • grub for bootloader
  • netctl for network
  • Installed bluetooth support
  • Added multilib repos
  • Enabled dhcp
  • Created a new user with root privileges
  • Installed i3wm
  • Installed Nvidia-340xx drivers
  • Installed xf86-input-synaptics
  • Installed LightDM
  • Installed blueman
  • Additional software selected and added: audacity, jack2, puseaudio, firefox, transmission (both CLI and GTK), VLC, libreoffice-fresh, vim, zsh, arch-wiki, dmenu, fetchmirrors, git, gparted, htop, openssh, screenfetch ufw, wget

Anyways, for some reason that I don't understand now it works correctly. I tried two times before coming here and reporting the bug and I did each step exactly like I mentioned here, so I don't know what happened. I also have a friend and it happened the same to him.

Close the bug, I guess. It seems to be random.

Just leaving a comment because this came up in my google search.

I installed lightdm (like kurolox) and it fixed my issue. Previously, I attempted setting the fonts to Lyx because that's all I had installed (from what I could tell).

Once I installed lightdm, I mod+shift+r'ed and it's all fixed, which is why it started working for op. This is a font config related issue.
