You need to add click listener to the column.template, not the whole series:

series.columns.template.set("strokeWidth", 3);

series.columns.template.events.on("click", function(e){
  console.log(e.target.dataItem)
})

but as ohlc candles are thin, this won't be a good approach.

Instead, I would recommend adding click listener to the plotContainer and then get the series tooltipDataItem, as it's the one most close to the mouse:

chart.plotContainer.events.on("click", function(){
  console.log(series.get("tooltipDataItem"));
})

Many thanks for helping out! You're right, I think the plotContainer seems like a better approach. And the strokeWidth did also help.
