This seems to be closely related to #10.
Unfortunately this is not easily possible as we rely on an ICU parser which is not configurable. As the ICU syntax covers a range of features besides simple interpolation I think this is understandable and I don't think that there's a change planned in regards to this.
I guess for your use case if you're planning to transition to next-intl you'd have to find a way of converting your format to ICU. I'd be curious which cases are problematic when you do a global search and replace of {{ to { if string interpolation is the only feature you use from your current translation solution.
I'll close this in favour of #10
